Nominations open for Stan’s award
Nominations are now open for an award honouring the late Stan Henwood and his lifetime contribution to Tynong.
The annual Stan Henwood Award recognises individuals who have made significant contributions to the Cardinia Shire community over a period of more than 10 years.
Cardinia Shire mayor Brett Owen said Stan was a beloved Tynong resident, whose many contributions over the years strengthened the local community and beyond.
“Stan was also the recipient of a medal from the Australian Prime Minister for service to sport and an Order of Australia for service to the community,” said Cr Owen. “It is this greater level of commitment to volunteering across a diverse range of organisations, and throughout most of his life, that made Stan a standout member of our community.”
The award pays tribute to Stan Henwood’s community service by acknowledging similarly motivated individuals from across the shire for their commitment to improving local sporting and community facilities for the enjoyment of the whole community.
Eligible nominees must be a resident of Cardinia Shire, have demonstrated significant commitment to community services over at least 10 years, not have received this award in the past and not be a former councillor (within the last four years).
Nominations for the 2017 award close at 5pm on Sunday, March 12.
The winner will be announced and acknowledged at the Annual Mayor's Volunteer Reception on Thursday, May 11 at the Cardinia Cultural Centre.
