Million dollar facelift for local gravel roads

-

A $1 million gravel road resheet program on 15 local roads has been completed by Baw Baw Shire.

The resheeting works involved reshaping and placing additional material on more than 28 kilometres of existing gravel road pavements, which has improved the road surface and roadside drainage.

Works were undertaken on Brock Rd, Hallora; Dawsons Trk, Nilma North; Fishers Rd, Childers; Ireland Rd, Trafalgar; Jacobs Creek Rd, Jacobs Creek; McLelland Rd, Erica; Orchard Rd, Trafalgar; Preston Rd, Ripplebrook; Rhodes Rd, Darnum; Ringin Rd, Drouin South; Tolley Rd, Ripplebrook; Yulungah Rd, Trafalgar; Falls Rd, Narracan; Falls Rd extension, Narracan; and, Old Coach Rd, Moondarra.

Mayor Joe Gauci said the program helped to maintain and improve the condition and safety of unsealed gravel roads.

“Unsealed roads require ongoing maintenance to ensure they continue to remain safe and useable.

“This program enables council to address the unsealed roads in most need of maintenance each year and provides for easier and safer travelling by road users.

“As part of the asset renewal program, it contributes to council’s management of over 1700 kilometres of sealed and unsealed roads.

“This program is another example of council’s commitment to improving the road networks across the shire,” Cr Gauci said.

The $1 million program was supported by funding from the Federal Government’s Roads to Recovery program.
