Training for the railways

Walhalla Goldfields Railway is conducting a training program for new volunteers on Sunday.

Opportunit­ies are always open to new volunteers who are keen to join the dynamic and experience­d team.

The organisati­on has positions open for people of all ages, especially younger volunteers who are keen to learn new skills.

The next training day for new volunteers is set for Sunday in the Thelma George Training Room at Thomson Station.

Volunteeri­ng can be a stepping stone to full employment, a chance to meet and make new friends, to do something totally different from your present work and to work in the beautiful bush surrounds of Walhalla and the Thomson River.

The group is keen to train up new train crew, the positions of guards, diesel locomotive assistants and drivers are open to men and women from the age of 18.

There also are positions available for station staff and maintenanc­e crew. Men and women are most welcome.

The training day will begin at Thomson at 10am, each trainee will be given a guided tour of the facilities and an outline of each of the positions available. Lunch will be provided as well as all training materials.
