Longwarry teams in three grand finals

Longwarry’s Tuesday and division six pennant teams have joined division three in qualifying through to their respective grand finals. Division six: Longwarry 58 defeated Trafalgar 42. Graham Sparks, John Watts, Eric Peterson and Gerry Wakefield (skip) defeated G. Burn’s team 31/17.

Longwarry got off to an early lead and were 12 shots up at the tea break. Well directed by skip Gerry, the team had a strong 14-shot win.

Reg Dunn, Eddie Bluck, Peter Smethurst and Brian Mason (skip) defeated B. Lithcow’s team 27/25.

Longwarry got off to a slow start and at one stage were eight shots down. However, after the tea break, Longwarry started to play well as a team and were listening to the skip’s direction. Turning their form around and with the crowd’s support, Longwarry got home by two shots.

Division six will play Morwell at Yallourn on Saturday whilst division three will play Traralgon at Trafalgar.

Tuesday Pennant

Longwarry 60 defeated Traralgon 35. Jenny Smith, Eric Peterson, Bette Heatley and Judy Eastwell (skip) defeated by M. Gunnulson’s team 24/25.

Longwarry were 13 shots down on the 17th end but won six of the last eight ends in a great comeback to just go down by one shot.

Lorna Sheedy, Peter Smethurst, Eileen Sparks and Vicki Hanks (skip) defeated H. Ward’s team 36/10.

Longwarry started well and were in control of the game throughout. They won 18 of the 25 ends to record a comfortabl­e 26-shot win in a great team effort.

Longwarry will now have a week off before taking on the winner of Traralgon versus Yinnar next Tuesday.
