Panthers pounce

Neerim District 10/140 vs. Yarragon 1/40

Yarragon has a chance of sneaking into the top four after a dominant performanc­e on day one of its clash with Neerim District.

Batting first the Stags were in trouble early at 4/27 before a handy fifth wicket stand steadied the ship.

Matt Ward was typically dominant striking eight fours and one six before snicking off for 46.

Anthony Hart kept the scoreboard ticking over after Ward’s departure to finish not out on 40 as the visitor was routed for 140 in the 49th over.

Clint Madden took the new ball and struck the early blows to finish with 2/35.

Dale Norton (2/40) and Norm Evans worked together to wrap up the tail. Evans was particular­ly hard to get away, bowling four maidens from nine overs and claiming 2/10.

In reply the Panthers faced 18 overs and ended the day one down for 40.

John Malacarne (23 not out) and Jake Green (11 not out) will take up the chase when play resumes this weekend and with just a further 101 required, the home side looks set to pull off an upset victory.

Jindivick fight

Jindivick 10/132 vs. Bunyip 4/77 Bunyip holds a slight advantage over Jindivick in what promises to be an interestin­g contest.

Choosing to bat first the Jumping Jacks struggled from the outset with their top four back in the pavilion with only 55 on the scoreboard.

Nick Hume (39) and Aaron Larkman (37) offered some resistance but their dismissals were part of a collapse that saw the visitor lose 6/12.

Davis McConnell was the pick of the bowlers with 4/27 off 16 overs. Sam Michie chipped in with 2/16 while Arthur Begg returned the incredible figures of 2/2 off six overs including four maidens.

In reply the Bulls were on the back foot almost immediatel­y, losing Scott Squires for just four.

Arthur Begg (39) settled quickly, scoring at a good rate with five boundaries before late wickets saw the home side finish the day 55 in arrears with six wickets in hand.

Shane Hoskins has two wickets.

The match between Drouin and Buln Buln will be played as a oneday game this weekend.
