Bankers hold on

Ellinbank (8-147) def. Bunyip (8-126): A belligerent half-century to Tyler McMillan threatened to lead Bunyip to the C grade T20 flag, but unfortunately for the Bulls Ellinbank’s death bowling proved too much to overcome – as the Eagles took out a 21-run win.

On a ground that rewarded hard-running and placement – and taking advantage whenever possible of the strong breeze blowing towards the pavilion side of Dowton Park – Ellinbank posted an imposing 8147 from their allotted overs, with Nick Fairbank and Brad Berry leading the way.

Fairbank’s aggressive 38 (off just 25 balls, and containing three sixes) ensured that the pressure was off Berry to hit boundaries, and his approach of working the ball into gaps paid dividends.

He remained unbeaten on 43 from 41 balls to carry his side through to what was eventually a match-winning total.

None of the Bunyip batsmen were able to match McMillan’s ball-striking, and despite blasting a number of massive hits over the fence, the lack of support meant that the pressure to score intensified with every over.

Eventually McMillan fell for 59 – caught off the bowling of Michael Pandolfo – and from then on there just wasn’t enough power-hitting for Bunyip.

Wlliam Robertson (2-14) lead the way with the ball, and five other players snared a scalp as the Eagles restricted the Bulls to 8-126 in reply.

Man of the match: Brad Berry.
