I agree with John Hart that there is no overwhelming tide of government and community support to radically transform our energy system from fossil fuels to renewables.

The current events in SA and surrounding political debates about our national energy market and how it operates show that the appetite for change is ripening though.

Baw Baw Sustainability Network is involved in a joint project with Beyond Zero Emissions and our local shire to achieve zero carbon emissions for all our stationary energy use, being electricity and gas, over the next 10 years.

That will mean energy efficiency upgrades, investment in a variety of renewable generation and storage options sourced either locally or afar and we intend to facilitate community ownership models as much as possible.

It is an ambitious plan that will require lots of input from many people. With an engineering background and interest in the area John Hart’s involvement would be most welcome as would anyone else with some drive to help.

If we don’t make the transition very rapidly we stand no chance of handing over the earth in a habitable state to our children. What could be a better motivator for action? Anyone can contact us at bbsn@dcsi.net.au to get involved.
