Rats leave Drouin man seething

-

A lack of action to clean up an overgrown block of land in a Drouin residential area has a grandfather seething.

Colin Bradley says his daughter and family that live in Victoria St have been getting rats coming into their property from the block at the rear.

It will become a legal issue if my granddaughter gets bitten, Mr Bradley said.

He said he’d been drawn into the issue because of frustration that no clean up had taken place since his daughter made a written complaint via Baw Baw Shire Council’s website on November 2.

Mr Bradley has photographs of dead rats that have been trapped in the Victoria St property and has even suggested to his daughter that she give them to the shire as “reward for their lack of concern and duty of care”.

After an initial automatically generated email message acknowledging receipt of the complaint in early November a subsequent email from shire compliance officer Emma Marsh said a visit to the offending property and inspection had been undertaken.

Although there had been “some issues regarding contacting the property owner to gain compliance” Ms Marsh said that as the Fire Danger period had been entered a notice had been issued (to the owner) and council would send in contractors to complete the job if the notice was not complied with.

Nothing has happened, a fed up Mr Bradley said last week.
