Excitement for Oak St treehouse
There was a sense of excitement at Drouin’s Oak Street kindergarten on Tuesday as children eagerly anticipated making use of the newly built treehouse.
Oak Street kindergarten committee of management president Karen Patterson said the treehouse, which includes a slide and cubby hole spaces, had been a long time in the making. She thanked previous committee members for working hard to achieve the vision.
Kindergarten grants officer Caitlyn Noonan said Baw Baw Shire Council had assisted with a minor infrastructure grant.
“The staff and parent committee had a plan and it was always going to get done,” she said.
“It probably meant that the playground could open ready for this school year instead of next.”
Education leader Melissa Rankine said it had taken many committed committee members to achieve the finished product.
“Each group have had a teddy bear picnic,” she said.
“When it’s a howling easterly and the children get stuck inside, the kids can escape and come out here and play.”
The new treehouse completes a wide range of play spaces at the kindergarten, which include a bike track, play space and a digging space to appeal to the sensory input.
“We can have 25 children out here at a time and they’re all engaged,” Ms Rankine said.
