New people for roads committee

-

The Warragul High Tea held its annual event at Lardner Park to raise funds for the McGrath Foundation and the West Gippsland Healthcare Group Breast Care Nurse support service.

The event was a huge success with $15,000 raised; of which half was donated to support local women experiencing breast cancer.

Annette Houlahan, the Warragul based McGrath Breast Care nurse was delighted with the amount of support from the local community.

“The attendance and generosity of the local community to support this annual fundraising event is very special.

“My role as a breast care nurse helps provide invaluable physical, psychological and emotional support to local families, from the time of diagnosis and throughout treatment”, she said.

“The funds from this event will be used to establish a wig library facility at the District Nursing Service Division based at the West Gippsland Hospital, for local women undergoing chemotherapy,” Ms Houlahan said.

Families in the West Gippsland community can self-refer to this free service by calling Annette Houlahan on 5623 0627.

Four community members have been appointed to Baw Baw Shire’s roads and drainage advisory committee.

Council recently endorsed the appointments of Neil Allen, Geoff Anderson, David Balfour and Stephen Mitchell.

The committee includes four community representatives, Crs Keith Cook and Darren Wallace and council officers.

The roads and drainage committee reports to council and provides appropriate advice and recommendations on roads and drainage matters and share ideas and knowledge about how management of the shire’s roads and drainage network can be improved.

Council received six applications for the four positions.

Cr Wallace said the four community members would bring a wealth of experience to the committee.

He said they had all worked or had contact with the shire in various capacities.

Cr Peter Kostos said Mr Balfour had extensive background an experience with the committee during his time on council while Mr Anderson was a great asset with his drainage engineering background.
