Junior win gives league some joy

-

The Gippsland Under 18 side gave Saturday a great start for the league with a good win against Yarra Ranges in an entertaining contest by the stars of tomorrow.

It was level at half time before the Gippsland side took charge kicking eight goals to one in the second half to win 12-9 to 5-12.

It was an excellent team effort, the goals spread among eight players and all members of the side doing their bit especially after being challenged by coach Kristian Gray at the quarter and half time breaks.

He felt they hadn’t played up to capabilities in the opening two terms.

Gray was right and when they did put their game together had too many guns and a style of play that Ranges couldn’t counter.

Warragul’s Jedd Serong completed a great fortnight for him.

He was named among Gippsland’s best, kicked a goal and was never far from the action whether at half forward or on the ball.

It was a great follow-up to his threegoal senior debut for Warragul in the win over Maffra last Saturday week.

The medal for Gippsland’s best player on Saturday was won by Morwell’s Anthony Rosato.

Other better players were Joshua Galea (Moe), Cameron Olden and Jordan Patullo (Leongatha), Serong and Traralgon’s Luke Johnson.

The goals were kicked by Jordan Patullo, three; Olden and Hayden Willaton, two each, with single goals by Johnson, Serong, Will Kennedy (Morwell), Rhys Anderson (Moe) and Dylan Garnham (Leongatha).
