Blues hold spot in top four

Catani kicked away in the second half to comfortabl­y account for Poowong and remain in the top four.

Trailing by five points at quarter time, the Blues took a 14-point lead into half time before kicking away with 10 goals to two in the second half on the way to winning, 16-15 (111) to 6-11 (47).

The Magpies continue to show glimpses of form, but have thus far been unable to string four quarters together.

Brayden Kennedy, Mitchell Davey, Trent Adams, Tim Lonsdale, Aiden Cuff and Hayden Lownds helped power the Blues in the second half.

For the Magpies, it was Conor Cunningham, Jack Hazendonk, Joseph Bisognin, Tim Hancock, Gavin Notman and Thomas Wyatt who kept them in the match to half time.

Catani were also comfortabl­e winners in the Reserves, 16-13 (109) to 86 (54).

The Magpies matched it with the Blues in the first term but then fell away.

Shane Warren kicked five goals for the Blues, while Josh Tymensen continued his push for senior recall with four majors. John Traynor, Blake Matthews, Leigh Jose, Luke McFarlane, Cody Banbury and William Temby were also prominent.

Trent Bowtell was by far Poowong’s best player, booting seven goals of his sides eight. James Clark, Jack Clink, Mark Stephens, Ben Schulz and Adam Evans were other better players.

Cats win tight match

Neerim-Neerim South won a tight under 16s match, 4-6 (30) to 2-9 (21).

Wasted opportunit­ies proved costly for the Magpies, with the Cats holding a narrow lead throughout.

Eddie McGillivra­y, Lachlan Guy, Kyle Bright, Josh White, Harry Notman and Sam Dennis helped the Cats maintain the advantage.

Jai Newcombe, Joel Darts, Mathew Burr, Bailey Murphy, Ash Schmidt and William Walker kept the Magpies in the game.
