Lyrebirds clear in EDFL top five

Buln Buln moved clear in the top five with a hard-fought win over Nilma-Darnum, 10-11 (71) to 8-7 (55).

The Lyrebirds held a narrow five point lead at half time, but the Bombers were left to rue a missed opportunit­y after coughing up a three-quarter-time lead.

The Bombers, who have promised so much in recent seasons, kicked five goals to one in the third term to set up a lead of 16 points at the final change.

But they let an opportunit­y slip, as the Lyrebirds kicked six goals to one in the final term to record their third victory and move to fifth place on the ladder.

James Davidson led the scoring with three goals, with Matt Gray, Trent Baker, Harley Nobelius, Jack Martyn, Darcy Brown and Luke Nobelius pushing the Lyrebirds to victory.

Rhys Chalkley kicked three goals for Nilma-Darnum. Chris Cameron, Trent Hughes, Nicholas Wilcox, Nathan Campbell and Ben Campbell helped the Bombers to a three-quarter-time lead.

Buln wins big

Buln Buln were big winners in the Reserves, 15-21 (111) to 2-6 (18).

The Lyrebirds kicked away after quarter time, having wasted opportunit­ies to register 2-7 for the term.

Toby Bransgrove kicked four goals, while Nicholas Castle and Jakob Simpson each chipped in with three majors. Lex Wright, Josh Lambert and Jake Baker also helped the Lyrebirds to a big win.

Oxley Huson, Thomas Williamson, Joe Gibbons, Nicholas Denholm, Ashley Scott and Corey Wright battled against the odds for Nilma-Darnum.

Young Bombers win

Nilma-Darnum’s under 16 team continues to show promise, this time accounting for Buln Buln 5-6 (36) to 3-6 (24).

With scores tied up at half time, the Bombers kicked four goals to two in the second half.

Blake Kahan kicked two goals in a best on ground effort, with Korey Carrison, Blake Roberts, Deacon Wallace and Sebastian Crowle also helping the Bombers over the line.

The Lyrebirds were best served by Nelson Brew, Jaiden McDougal, Eamon Brew, Charlie Wans, Jack Chesterfie­ld and Flynn O’Reilly.
