Bombers take apart Trafalgar

- By Laurie Williams

At the George Bates Reserve, Yallourn-Yallourn North took Trafalgar apart in what was expected to be a close clash, 17-8 (110) to 9-7 (61).

The Bombers have now won the last five over Trafalgar, which included the massive record last season.

The battle of the forwards ceased to be a contest with Dean McDonald winning out over his Trafalgar counterpart Mark Van Schajik, but it was nippy rover Tyler Brown who destroyed Trafalgar, his six goals steered the Bombers to a winning position.

Yallourn-Yallourn North kicked to the scoreboard end and peeling off five goals in the opening term gave them the advantage. The wind wasn’t a big factor in Yallourn-Yallourn North scoring, it was just good honest football in a tough contest.

Yallourn-Yallourn North stood out as the go getters, getting the ball out of the pack when it looked like developing into a straggle.

At one stage Trafalgar went all defensive with all their players within Yallourn-Yallourn North’s 50 metre arc.

Conditions were far better than the previous week’s wind and rain and players showed good skills. Yallourn-Yallourn North adapted better to their home conditions running the ball wide then crossing in towards goal, they seemed to have more players in position as Trafalgar seemed lost on the huge expanse of the George Bates Reserve.

A further five goals in the second term virtually stitched up the game in the Bomber’s favour.

The final term produced some magic football as both teams went on the attack, Yallourn-Yallourn North posted five goals to Trafalgar’s four, but it was the Bombers who were more consistent overall to take the game.

Tony Young, Tyler Brown and Dylan Bentley were Yallourn-Yallourn North’s best, while for Trafalgar Jamie Hynes, Lachlan Farrell and Conner Noonan were given the votes.
