Warragul Bowling Club recently held its presentati­on evening.

The womens singles champion was won by Elsie Hefford, who was also a winner in the womens fours and runner up in the drawn pairs events.

Men’s singles champion Terry Sullivan also had a successful year with other wins in the men’s pairs, and triples.

Many trophies were presented during the evening recognisin­g members achievemen­ts.

Womens B grade singles was won by Jean Kydd with runner up Linda McCoy, and the men’s B grade singles was won by Mike Cousens with runner up Brian Kennedy. All games were contested in front of an appreciati­ve audience.

Pat Hammond and Kerrie Currie entered the Over 60s state pairs competitio­n, won the West Gippsland Region beating South Gippsland to qualify to play off at state level at Footscray/Yarraville with 16 teams competing and got down to the last eight.

All pennant teams worked hard during the year but the season highlight was the womens division three side which won the grand final against ladder leaders Yarragon.

In a nail biting finish, Warragul came from 24 points down at the half way mark to win by 3 points. Each player was presented with a special medallion to mark their achievemen­t.

The club held its most successful Easter tournament for many years with about 160 players participat­ing over the three days.

Teams came from Traralgon, Traralgon RSL, Morwell, Yallourn, Trafalgar, Yinnar, Moe, Neerim District, Drouin, Longwarry, Garfield, Narre Warren, Cranbourne, Hampton Park and of course Warragul.

Good Friday’s mixed pairs was won by Warragul pair Gabrielle Draisma and Paul Simmons (s).

Easter Sunday’s mixed fours was won by Warragul team David Alderman, Chris Wilkins, Keith Wilkins and Janette Gallasch (s).

Easter Monday’s open pairs had a huge field of 28 teams. Winners were Warragul’s Terry Sullivan and Paul Simmons with three wins and 29 shots up.

Runners up were Ted Kuklinski (Moe) and Ken Capper (Trafalgar) with 27 shots up and third were Warragul’s David Alderman and Clive Padgham with 21 shots up.

Best game was Ken Taylor and Graeme Davis (Warragul) with 21 shots up.

Tournament chairman Clive Padgham thanked all those who helped make the event a success including several sponsors.. Ladies championsh­ip fours The final of the ladies championsh­ip fours was played recently and a good crowd attended to witness what they hoped would be a close match.

Unfortunat­ely it didn’t pan out that way with a very one side match ensuing.

The team of Gabrielle Draisma, Shirley Melsen, Elsie Hefford and Janette Gallasch (s) defeated Jean Kidd, Mal Baldwin, Edna Adams and Roma Rippon 25/6.. Winter bowls From May until the end of August winter bowls will be held each Thursday and Saturday commencing at 10.30am (names in by 9.30am).

Thursdays is open triples and Saturdays is single entry with the format to be decided depending on numbers. Members and visitors are welcome.
