Lyrebirds consolidate in top five
Buln Buln consolidated its position inside the Ellinbank District football top five, but were made to work hard against a determined Lang Lang to win 10-18 (78) to 6-6 (42).
Indeed, the Tigers could well have been in front at quarter time had it not been for a return of 1-6, instead finding themselves down by a point.
The Tigers kicked better from that point, with their next five shots going through the big sticks.
While the visitor remained in touch into the final quarter, the Lyrebirds were simply able to generate more scoring opportunities to kick out to a 20-point lead at three-quarter-time before finishing off strongly.
It was Buln Buln’s turn to experience the yips in the final term. The final margin could have been greater had it not been for a fourth quarter return of 3-10.
Luke Nobelius, Sam Langford, Jack Martyn, Shaun Beecroft, Harry Wans and Jack Nuttall were the better players for Buln Buln, who would be pleased that several of their younger players stood up in a strong win over the Tigers.
Clint Fulton kicked three goals for Lang Lang, with William McGindle, Brent Miller, Dylan Sutton, Eden Shepherd and Dean Brown also among their better players.
Lyrebirds strong
Buln Buln ran out strong winners in the Reserves, 14-7 (91) to 35 (23).
The Lyrebirds kicked five goals in the first term and were never headed on the way to a comfortable win.
Ryan Bishop kicked five goals, while Jeremy Jagoe and Nicholas Castle each chipped in with three majors. Thomas Park, Jake Baker and Mitchell Hall were also prominent.
Lang Lang were best served by James Vela, Danyon Blew, Dylan Diehl, Riley Marshall and Scott Fairburn.
Buln too strong
Buln Buln were too strong in the under 18s, comfortably accounting for Lang Lang 14-8 (92) to 4-7 (31).
The Tigers were competitive in the first term, trailing by just six points at the first change as Buln Buln took time to gel with its under 16 top up players.
But from there the Lyrebirds were able to kick away, as some of their stronger players began to come to the fore.
Reece Campbell, Brandon Allan (four goals), Kyan Willis and Sean Symes began to take control and put the match well and truly on Buln Buln’s terms. Jake Smith (three goals) and Tai Strachan also played effective roles.
Nash Dwyer, who kicked two goals, battled hard against the odds, as did Max De Longville, Stephen Aeschenbrenner, Brad Ventura and Jai Gurnett.
