Industrials power away from Magpies

-

Warragul Industrials powered away from Poowong following a second quarter scare to win easily, 22-17 (149) to 3-4 (22).

While a rumour had been circulating that former AFL player Nathan Ablett would line up for the Industrials, it never eventuated with Dusties able to power away from their opponents anyhow.

The Industrials kicked out to a 21-point lead at quarter time, but the Magpies responded in the second term, matching Dusties with three goals for the quarter.

Any hopes of the Magpies making a game of it quickly dissipated in the second half as the Industrials ran rampant. Seven goals in the third term had the match in the Industrials’ keeping.

Poowong sent ruckman Conor Cunningham to full back in an effort to stem the tide in the final term, but he was only forced to watch the ball sail over his head as the Industrials finished strongly.

Highlights in the final term included several roving snaps and a big fly and goal from Will Jolley in the goal square.

Goal kickers and better players were not available at time of going to print.

Dusties win big

Warragul Industrials were also big winners in the Reserves, 2211 (143) to Poowong 3-3 (21).

The Industrials kicked six goals in the first term and were never headed as they continued to score consistently across the four quarters.

Poowong scored two goals in the final term to improve on an otherwise bleak day.

Corey Nickels pressed his case for senior recall, kicking five goals in an effort matched by Matt Gooden. Troy Hemming and Darren Blaney also chipped in with three majors apiece.

Damien Mullen was best on ground for the Industrials, while the Magpies were best served by Tristan Hawksworth, Scott Wilson, Nathan Bacon, Lachlan Bourne, Darren Motton and Jake Lewis.

Dusties in control

Warragul Industrials also took full control in the under 18s on the way to winning, 17-17 (119) to 1-0 (6).

The Industrials kicked seven goals in the first term and continued to score heavily throughout.

Poowong’s only joy came in the final term, by virtue of a player leant by the Industrials.

Tom Commadeur kicked four goals and Darcy Norton three. Isaac Lalor, Jacob Walker, Jackson Perry, Ryan Hefford and Josh Lewis.

Jake Henry, Jordan Knox, Josh McNally, Jai Newcombe and Bailey Murphy battled against the odds for Poowong.

Dusties work hard

Warragul Industrials were forced to work harder by a determined Poowong team, to take the points 6-9 (45) to 2-8 (20).

The Industrials gradually built on their lead against a wasteful Magpies, who registered seven behinds to three-quarter-time before closing the gap in the final term.

Henry Tyers, Darcy Porch, Harrison Perry, Tyler Murray, Brad Young and Tyler Irving helped the Industrials to victory.

Lachlan De Kleuver, Jai Newcombe, Mathew Burr, Thomas Hudson, Darcy Burgess and Jacksen Barlow worked to keep the Magpies in the contest.
