Drouin welcome Korumburra in GSL

-

Drouin welcomed Korumburra at Bellbird Park on a beautiful winter’s day.

After the recent damage and the wear and tear on our main pitch, it was decided during the week to start using pitch 3 near the Hockey ground, which required new goal posts to be installed and lines being measured and marked.

The club thanked players and coached who worked on preparing pitches on Saturday. The club also spent some time cleaning out some of the overgrown bushes and blackberries where the children play during training and on game day, which will make it safer for all. Under 6 The children were back to play Korumburra after a very long break between games and were very excited to show off their skills.

All of the children played exceptionally well, having been working very hard on calling out to their teammates and passing at training, which really showed.

Coach’s awards went to Riley for moving out of defence and showing his skills in attack. Mila received the parent’s award for her great attack and goal kicking. Under 8 The teams were evenly matched and saw some great skills from both sides.

A lot of passing the ball around from the Dragon’s saw some quick breakaways, which was exciting to watch.

Jack was goalkeeper this week and did a marvellous job.

The under 8s are improving and getting more confident with each week. Awards: Aidan Franz - Encouragement award; Jenson Opsenica - Best on ground. Under 10 The under 10s came back down to reality following a run of four excellent matches with a hard-fought match against Korumburra.

Although there were three goals down at one point, determined attacking, including a lastminute goalie run from Ayden, saw them reduce the difference to a single goal.

Great tackling by Lucia and Hugo could not contain Korumburra’s fast attacks, and Darcy’s two goals, added to Jordan’s one, were not enough despite many determined attacks by the home team.

Tom and Harvey both had great games in midfield. Player awards: DDSC best on ground: Jordan for a great goal; Coaches award: Isobel, for some great attacks up front and for some great defending. Under 15 Girls Full-time Score: Drouin 3 – Korumburra - 0 Drouin met an in-form Korumburra on a beautiful winter’s day.

It was a well-fought game, with both sides having numerous attempts at goal, before Lilly Carrison scored to put Drouin on the board. Some great plays from defence and midfield provided Lilly with the opportunity.

Haley, Thalia and Zoe worked hard to keep the ball away from the defensive end.

Cienna Byers and Violette Thomas played superb games, running the wall out wide – to Drouin’s advantage.

The defence were under pressure on both sides, with two fast forwards running the ball through, but Imogen Cooper kept them wanting, saving multiple shots before Korumburra scored a leveller, and the girls went into the half time break 1-1.

The second half had more play for Drouin, with some great plays through the midfield and onto the boot of Lilly Carrison. She scored in the first minute of the second half to put Drouin ahead.

The girls kept the pressure on, and ensured that Korumburra didn’t score again.

In the last few minutes of the game, Lilly used a corner kick to get her third goal for the game and seal the win for Drouin.

Best players: Thalia Mitchell, Hayley Berry, Lilly Carrison. Under 16s The under 16s continue to progress up the ladder in 2017, beating Korumburra eight goals to nil.

This group of players are basically the same core group from the successful 2015-2016 under 14s. New players have supplemented the team and provide that extra depth and skills in defence and attack.

The first goal scored for the game was a beautiful header from Dale from a corner kick.

After that, the goals were spread throughout the team. The defence held up really well and made it hard for Korumburra to get through. Best: Chevy, Campbell and David. Goal Scorers: Rico, Campbell, Dale, Flynn, Chevy, Tom, Josh Senior Women Full-time Score: Drouin 2 – Korumburra - 1 A fantastic effort was had by all, including the Korumburra women.

The sun was shining and the women were ready for some action.

With Casey and Liz out of the game, Drouin had to do a bit of a shuffle of positions.

The whole team adjusted and made ample opportunities on goals. It was great to see the women working as a team, the passing and communication was all on point.

Bec Brown held the back line in ship shape, as per normal. With the wingers running their absolute hardest, it was great to see they had each other’s back.

Drouin were lucky enough to have Hayley and Talia from the under 15s as substitutes. It was great to see the senior women take the young girls under their wings and encourage them.

Best on ground: Bec Brown; Other awards: Jess Nalty, Angel Scott, Erin Park.

Goal scorers: Jess Nalty –2.
