Resident calls for “stop” at intersection
A resident has urged Baw Baw Shire to place “stop” signs at a dangerous intersection near Darnum.
Currently, “give way” signs stand where Darnum-Allambee Rd intersects with Parkers Rd and Bona Vista Rd.
In response to Gazette enquiries, Baw Baw Shire will investigate the signage and lines at the site.
Sharon Bursa, who has lived near the intersection for about 13 years, has had enough of seeing many nasty accidents and nearly been collected herself when travelling through the intersection.
A recent accident resulted in Ms Bursa’s urge action to be taken.
“It’s a very, very busy intersection now. Somebody is going to be killed. There’s been so many near misses and accidents. It’s got to stop and all you need is a stop sign.”
Baw Baw Shire community assets acting director David Dunstan said stop signs were installed in locations where sight distance was inadequate.
“Even though this location is satisfactory, council will investigate replacing the give way signs and lines with stop signs and lines to further improve traffic safety, as well as potentially installing some additional large advance warning signs (advising distance to cross intersection) to remind motorists to reduce their speed,” said Mr Dunstan.
“Council continually reviews safety issues raised by the community, in addition to reviewing crash data,” he said. “Local police also provide council with police reports if roadside infrastructure is observed to require improvements.”
Police reported a casualty crash in 2002 while Baw Baw Shire added a casualty crash at dusk was reported in 2015 due to driver behaviour.
