A $3.2 million funding commitment will be used to market Gippsland as a key tourist destination in the stated

The region is set to benefit from the funding boost, that will enable marketing and promotion of key “hotspots” like Mt Baw Baw and Walhalla.

The tourism funding will be used to attract more visitors, boost local businesses and create more jobs. Tourism and Major Events Minister John Eren on Friday announced $3.2 million to help Destination Gippsland give more people the opportunity to experience the best of everything Gippsland has to offer.

Mr Eren said regions like Gippsland relied on the money and time tourists spend in their communities, which was why the state government was supporting local tourism operators and promoting the Inspired by Gippsland brand.

A new marketing program will showcase the best of the region’s produce and agriculture, including food and wine.

Wander Victoria also will focus on key tourist destinations and experiences in Gippsland to track where people are spending their money and determine whether greater investment is needed. A dedicated Gippsland campaign as part of Wander Victoria will continue to market hot spots like Mt Baw Baw and Walhalla.

Mr Eren said Gippsland welcomed 5.2 million visitors in the year ending December 2016, who spent $791 million in the region.

He said the government wanted to boost these numbers and make this region an even better place for visitors from around Victoria, and around the world.

The government will work with Visit Victoria and Destination Gippsland to develop an integrated strategy and more targeted marketing to better promote the region.

“When a family starts planning their next holiday, we want them to think Gippsland, Victoria. Tourists bring serious business to our regions and we’re working to showcase what we do best – that means more people seeing pictures, hearing our messages and coming here in their droves,” he said.

Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing said there was something for everyone to discover in Gippsland – and we want more visitors to come and explore all that we have to offer.
