Gavin a legend at his “second home” New CEO may be known soon
Gavin Ough has spent tireless hours at his “second home” of Western Park - but never quite like last Monday.
The spotlight was on Gavin after being named a Carlton Draught Footy Legend for his contribution to the Warragul Football Netball Club.
He was the focus of a commercial shot at Western Park which will be televised on Prime7 in late July or early August.
The 30-second commercial also will include about 20 club identities spanning seven decades who enjoyed catching up over a beer during the shoot.
“I’ve never done anything like this before,” said Gavin as he stood in the club changerooms as the film crew prepared for his interview.
“This is my second home down here at Western Park,” he said. “I love it. I just love the Warragul Football Netball Club.”
Gavin, who played junior footy for Warragul, returned to the club as it faced financial crisis about 20 years ago. Having helped work through the hard times, he is now enjoying good times.
A life member, Gavin has served as committee member, property manager and general maintenance man.
“I just help out where I can,” said the humble clubman.
Warragul was chosen to be part of the Carlton Draught Footy Legend program and the club was quick to nominate Gavin as its local legend.
Carlton Draught brand manager Corrie Paoloni said the piece on Gavin and his contribution to the footy club was part of a new program focusing on regional Victoria.
Ms Paoloni said Gavin was one of 10 footy legends across the state. Carlton Draught will direct $1000 to the Warragul club as a reward.
Baw Baw Shire’s new chief executive officer is expected to be announced in two weeks.
Mayor Joe Gauci said council was on track to endorsing the new ceo and announcing the successful applicant at council’s July 12 meeting.
More than 40 people applied for the position that was left vacant following Helen Anstis’ resignation in January.
Cr Gauci said they had a “really high calibre” of applicants which presented a good scenario for the shire.
He said candidates were shortlisted and then interviewed.
Cr Gauci said second round interviews were being conducted last week.
The mayor said he was pleased the process had ran smoothly and so far ahead of the expected timeframe.
Council’s community assets director Phil Cantillon was appointed interim chief executive officer in February to lead council until the new appointment.

The new director is expected to be appointed by mid-July to August.
Council engaged recruitment agency Davidson Executive Recruitment to co-ordinate the appointment of both the new ceo and director.
The recruitment agency costs to appoint the new ceo was expected to be $35,000.
