Ellinbank bounce back

Ellinbank bounced back strongly to comfortabl­y account for Poowong, 23-16 (154) to 5-9 (39).

The Eagles booted seven goals to one in the first term and were never headed, increasing the lead to 74-points at the main change to effectivel­y have the match in their keeping.

The Magpies’ bright spot came in the third term, which they won by kicking three goals to two, but it was short-lived as the Eagles rammed through nine goals in the final term to add some percentage.

Matthew Barrand again proved the prime target for the Eagles, booting eight goals, while Tim Mashado continued his good form to chip in with four majors.

Daniel Barrand, coach Ben Wragg, Mark Vassett and Jayson Barwick also helped the Eagles toa big win.

Joseph Bisognin, Conor Cunningham, Jack Hazendonk, Thomas Wyatt, Chris Doria and Tim Hancock led the third quarter revival for the Magpies.

Eagles avoid upset

Ellinbank were forced to come from behind to win the Reserves, 8-9 (57) to 6-0 (36).

The Magpies held a narrow lead across the first three quarters and were on track to cause an upset.

The Eagles clicked into gear in the final term, booting four goals to no score to take the points.

Brad Glover booted three goals, while Neale Parke, Jack Pandolfo, Michael Robertson, Lachlan Pratt, Nathan Van Steensel and Thomas Robertson also helped the Eagles to finish strong.

Jake Lewis, Mitch Whiting (three goals), Jake Cooper, Josh McNally, Nathan Brown and Benn Henshall helped put the Magpies into a position to challenge for the win.

Ellinbank were big winners in the under 18s, 17-12 (114) to 2-2 (14).

Jaxon Notman booted five goals, while Dale Armstrong (four goals) and Isaac Taylor (three majors) also contribute­d to the big score.

Tom Buckley-Brown, Elliot Kennedy and Jayden Hedrick were also prominent for the Eagles.

Jordan Knox, Mitchel Van’T Hof, Jake Henry, Mathew Burr, Ben Clarke and Jai Newcombe were best for Poowong.

Magpies miss chance

Inaccuracy proved costly for Poowong in the under 16s, going down 4-4 (28) to 1-13 (19).

Registerin­g just nine behinds to three quarter time, the Magpies would be ruing their missed chances.

Josh Tongs, Cooper Bagnara, Jesse Kelly, Lucas Maffei, Wells Sam and Stewart Bedford helped the Eagles hold on.

Bailey Murphy, Ben Clarke, Jacksen Barlow, Lachlan Anderson, Brian Kelson and Jai Newcombe continued to create opportunit­ies for the Magpies.
