Crows issue challenge to Blues

Catani continued on their winning ways, but had to withstand a serious challenge from an improving Longwarry side.

The Blues looked set to dominate the contest against the finals hopefuls, having slammed through seven goals to one in the first term.

But to the Crows’ credit, they hit back to work their way into the contest and take a narrow one-point lead into three-quarter-time.

The Blues snapped out of their lapse in the final term, booting three goals to two to hang on and win by just eight points, 14-12 (96) to 14-4 (88).

Paul Pattison and Owen Fitzpatric­k each kicked three goals, while Nicholas Visser, James Alexander, Brandon Scammell, Cody Banbury and Wade Haysom also helped the Blues hold on.

Coach Daniel Fry led Longwarry’s surge back into the contest, booting four goals. He was backed up by Braydon McHugh (three majors), Riley Rundell, Ben Cuckson, Aaron Serong, Brody Rundell and Nathan Fry.

Blues press advantage

Catani were comfortabl­e winners in the Reserves, 13-7 (85) to 4-5 (29).

The Blues booted six goals to two in the first term and were able to maintain the advantage.

Liam Keily booted five goals, while Jay Bosanquet, Blake Matthews, Brad Adams, Drew Campbell and Nicholas Cullen were also prominent for the Blues.

John Werner, Shaun Eckhardt, Jeremy Hill, Matt Hurst, Brendon Parnaby and Bohdi Van Der Pas led an improved effort for the Crows following quarter time.
