Mirboo North win mid-table battle

Mirboo North dominated at their home ground match up with Trafalgar this week.

This game was a battle for positions in the middle of the table and Trafalgar failed to show the good form they were producing earlier in the season.

The Tigers kept up the pressure during the first quarter to produce a healthy lead against the Bloods who only managed one point. Mirboo North leading at the end of the first term 5-3 (33) to Trafalgar 0-1 (1).

Although Trafalgar played some better football during the second quarter, Mirboo North converted the majority of their opportunit­ies to extend their lead. This forward pressure was maintained by Mirboo North during the second half of the game and Trafalgar failed to score in the final quarter.

A great game by the Tigers who had plenty of opportunit­ies at goal and the gap could have been much worse. Final scores Mirboo North 13-15 (93) to Trafalgar 7-5 (47).

Gunn was top goal scorer for Mirboo North with four and Doran for Trafalgar with three. Nash received best on ground for Mirboo North and Puglia received best on for Trafalgar. Yarragon v Boolarra In a fairly low scoring game, Boolarra still struggled to put any points on the ladder with a loss away to Yarragon.

Both teams struggled during the first half of the game but Yarragon had more opportunit­ies at goal and lead at the end of both quarters.

Scores at the end of half time Yarragon 2-7 (19) to Boolarra 1-2 (8).

The Panthers picked up the pace in the second half and the Demons failed to hold off the pressure from the Yarragon forward line.

The scores could have been worse with Yarragon missing 15 chances at goal. Scores at final whistle Yarragon 7-15 (57) to Boolarra 4-7 (31).

Best on ground for Yarragon was Harvey with Patrick Smith picking up this honour for Boolarra.

Mann kicked three goals to be the top scorer for Yarragon and Saunders converted three for Boolarra to add to his tally on boost him to the number one position on the top scorer leader board. Yinnar v Hill End Hill End were producing the goods to lead at the end of the first and second quarters in their game away to Yinnar this week.

The scores at half time Yinnar 3-8 (26) to Hill End 54 (34).

The Magpies would have been in shock at the scoreboard and player coach Jamie Aitken must have spoken some stern words to the boys during half time as Yinnar came out to dominate during the second half of the game.

Yinnar came back with many missed opportunit­ies to gain the lead by seven points at the end of the third term with the Hills men only getting two chances at goal.

The Magpies scored five goals to Hill End’s one in the fourth quarter to secure the victory and keep their spot at the top of the ladder.

Campbell was best on ground for Yinnar with Fiddelaers taking the honours for Hill End.

Renwick scored four for Yinnar to be their top goal scorer and Rotheram and Santo scored two apiece for Hill End. Morwell East v Yallourn-Yallourn North It was an exciting performanc­e by both Morwell East and Yallourn-Yallourn North this week, with both teams putting on the pressure and the lead changing hands throughout the game.

The Bombers held the lead at the end of the first quarter 25-points to Morwell East 12.

The Hawks then took advantage of all their opportunit­ies at goal to get back in front and lead the at the end of the second term Morwell East 7-0 (42) to YallournYa­llourn North 5-4 (34).

The third quarter was evenly matched up by both teams with four goals apiece but the Hawks maintained their lead by six points.

The Bombers then showed their dominance in the fourth quarter to keep the Hawks goalless whilst kicking four goals to get back on top and take out the victory.

Scores at the end of the final whistle Morwell East 112 (68) to Yallourn-Yallourn North 13-11 (89).

Frank Marks was given best on for Morwell East and Adam Bailey took best on for Yallourn-Yallourn North.

Towns, White and Jnr Tobin all kicked two apiece for Morwell East and Phillips and MacDonald kicked three goals each for Yallourn-Yallourn North. MacDonald dropping into second place this week on the goal scoring leader board overall.
