The defensive pressure by centre Christie Edwards, wing defence Jessie Hedley and goal defence April Bethune in the first quarter created several turnovers. They also gave opportunity for goal keeper Kym Diston to come out hunting.

This provided opportunity to run away with the game early. However, silly errors allowed Morwell to be still in the game at quarter time.

At half-time, a change in the goaling end saw Edwards go into goal attack to help feed the ball into Stacie Gardiner who went back to goal shooter.

Ruby Pratt played a consistent game in wing defence; an integral part of the whole team defensive pressure.

A team effort saw the Hawks pull away early in the second half and was the reason for the win. Awards: Kym Diston and April Bethune B grade: Drouin 38 defeated Morwell 28. Injuries saw another week of changes but the B grade team stood up to the challenge – especially considering it was fourth versus fifth.

It was a hard fought and scrappy game. The girls started strong but silly mistakes and missed goals saw them trailing at quarter time.

Goal shooter Taylah Marsh-Irwin stood tall with goal attack Jemyma Leishout. They worked together to get the ball under the post and shot well in windy conditions.

Deb Thomas and Kelly Hedley ran all game, providing drive into the attack end to feed the goalers from the best positions.

Wing defence Rachel Morris and goal defence Ali Macarthur both had sensational games, applying tight pressure to take and create several intercepts. Awards: Rachel Morris and Ali Macarthur. C grade: Drouin 37 defeated Morwell 28. After a talk by coach Jodie Buckingham, the players came out with a high work rate and put in a team effort from beginning to end.

In defence, Sarah Sharpe got some noticeable turnovers before centre Jess Murray and goal defence Abby Craig magnificently drove down the court.

In goals were Sam East and Abbey Tyrrell, both of whom worked hard under the ring. Both goalers shot and rebounded well.

Wing attack Emily Bethune helped the centre get that ball down the court to reward turnovers.

Under 15: Drouin 29 lost to Morwell 34 The Hawks came out firing and had an outstanding first quarter. Relentless pressure and excellent drive to goalers “on point” meant Drouin led by five goals at quarter time.

A few errors and unsteadiness down the court saw Morwell step up their defence, take the lead and hold onto it for the rest of the match.

Drouin continued to fight and did not give up. They played an outstanding game showcasing their improvement.

Awards: Olivia Flemming. Under 13: Drouin 6 lost to Morwell 31. Hard work is paying off with this the baby Hawks’ best game yet.
