Gold and Blue in match of round

Drouin Gold and Warragul Blue played out match of the round in D grade Mid Gippsland junior badminton.

Drouin siblings Isabelle and Jacob won a tough first doubles from Aiden and Bailey from Warragul. Then the next two doubles were three set games, one each for the two teams but Drouin had a decent lead going into the singles.

All of the singles were closely fought games. In the first game Isabelle for Drouin, won by one ace, then Bailey for Warragul, won his game by three aces.

Helena for Warragul won her game by four aces. This unfortunat­ely was not enough for Warragul and Drouin won by 14 aces.

For the second week in a row, A grade team Warragul gained the match point but didn’t win on the night.

Next week is the singles tournament on Friday.

Matches will start at 6.30pm, it is recommende­d that all players be at the venues before this time to sign in.

Both A grade and B/C grade will be playing at Warragul and D grade and E grade will be playing at Drouin.

If for any reason you are unable to play or want to now play on the night get in touch with Bronwyn Throup or your club manager before tomorrow. Thursday tennis

Diamonds closed the gap to top of the Warragul Thursday women’s tennis table with victory over their rivals Rubies in round 11.

The Diamonds ensured they remained in the hunt to secure the winter title, with their win closing the gap to just one point.

In the other match, Pearls defeated Emeralds to move well-clear in third position. Results: Pearls 4/31 d Emeralds 2/22, Diamonds 4/33 d Rubies 2/24.

Ladder: Rubies 48, Diamonds 47, Pearls 30, Emeralds 19.
