Dragons travel to Leongatha

-

Drouin Dragons Soccer Club travelled over to a very windy and cold morning in Leongatha.

The under 16s continue their great form and won eight goals to nil, which was the same score the previous week. Under 6 The children headed to Leongatha for another great little game this week.

It was extremely cold but the children were determined to keep themselves warm, moving around and chasing down the ball.

Baxter played a cracker game right from the start, attacking the ball and kicking the first goal.

Riley and Cal chose to sit back a bit and showing off their defence skills, but also moving down to attack when they got the break, whilst Noha was strong in the midfield attacking very well and also defending when need be.

The children did very well in the cold weather, including Lucy who unfortunately came off injured. The parent’s award went to Riley and coaches award went to Noha. Under 10 Leongatha showed the under 10s what a well drilled and disciplined side can do with a display of audacious attacking, and clearly demonstrated that you really do make your own luck.

Highlights for Drouin were a hat-trick from Darcy, and never-give-up attitude.

DDSC coaches award: Tom, for never stopping running; Encouragement award: Will, for carrying on as goalie and not giving up, and for some great saves. Under 12 Fulltime Score: Drouin 1 Leongatha 4 A cold and windy day at Leongatha. A good effort by Drouin was displayed who were very competitive and matched Leongatha for the whole game.

Possession of the ball was good however lack of talk is noticeable on field and our overcrowding in the midfield with too many short passes probably was the difference in the end result.

Tristan kicked Drouin’s only goal and the coach truly believes once the team eradicates congestion and focus on longer passes to forward space, the season can turn around.

Good effort by Tahj who played his first game in goals. Well done to Daniel, Holly and Charlie who all played good games as well. Drouin players are urged to keep their heads up, as they can still make the finals. Under 16 The under 16 boys again showed how a good group of children who want to play as a team and for the Drouin Dragons can play good soccer.

Goal Scorers: Lachlan 3, 1 goal each to Rico, Flynn, Dale and Campbell. Senior Women Full-time Score: Drouin 1 – Leongatha 5 Drouin had a fun game this week over at Leongatha.

Despite the loss the ladies were not disheartened, and gave their absolute best. There were some beautiful passages of play had today, as well as some crude ones, but as a team Drouin have identified these and will continue to work on them as a team.

With Zali, Kerry and Jaz away this week, the women were put in some different positions to the norm, but Drouin were all able to keep our heads and carry on.

Beautiful work in the back, as per usual they did an awesome job. The midfield, despite some confusion, held up their end of the deal and ran hard all day.

Jess Brown will a lucky corner kick, and slippery hands of their keeper saw the Dragons put a score on the board. The forwards as well ran their hardest.

Drouin had some shots on goals, but Leongatha were the better team on the day and they wanted the win more.

Awards: Mackenzie Warren (best on ground), Kate Boyer, Hayley Berry. Goal Scorers: Jess Brown - 1 This coming week is a massive weekend for Drouin, with both state league and Gippsland teams playing at home.

State league teams play on Saturday at 1pm and 3pm, while the Gippsland teams play on Sunday.
