Rotary helps buy friends’ mower

-

Warragul Rotary Club recently granted Friends of Mt Worth State Park a grant of $2500 to get the group across the line to purchase a flail mower to use in track maintenance.

The organisation has already received grants from Fonterra Darnum, HVP and Allambee Landcare.

Friends president Merrin Butler said the organisation was still short and were delighted when Rotary was able to assist in such a substantial and generous way.

The mower will be used to keep tracks clear and will save a lot of time and back breaking work with brush-cutters.

“Warragul Rotary is delighted to provide funds to support a local hard working group of dedicated volunteers providing a great service for our community” Rotary president Vaughan Fox said.

Later in the year Warragul Rotarians hope to have a joint barbecue at Mt Worth State Park with the friends group to see the operation of the new machine and the valuable work of the volunteers.

The Friends of Mt Worth State Park is a group of 16 volunteers working with Parks Victoria to make the park accessible to a wide range of people who can experience the natural environment and human history of the area. Tracks are developed to take visitors through typical examples of this environment, but naturally wet rainforest growth is constantly needing to be managed.

“The machinery will help get the basics done efficiently so we can continue to expand our activities to engage more of the public in the park,” Ms Butler said.
