Prominent artists flock to art show

-

The Warragul Exhibition Hall will be the new venue for this year’s Warragul Rotary Art Show from Friday, October 20 to Sunday, October 22.

“The West Gippsland Arts Centre may be out of action for 12 months, however, it has not stopped the annual Warragul Rotary Art Show from continuing its more than 40 years of tradition,” said art show coordinator Bob Lewis.

An expected 200 entries will compete this year for total prize money of $6300 spread across seven categories. A new category this year is “wearable art”. All entries will be judged for three additional categories – best exhibit in show, best Gippsland artist and people’s choice award.

The art show attracts prominent artists from across Gippsland and other parts of Victoria as well as lesser-known talents who are willing to share enthusiasm for their work. The art show is a great opportunity for artists to display their latest work with the potential to win a prize and make a sale.

The preview night on Thursday, October 19 is a great way to meet the artists, hear the winners being announced and have first choice of the artwork on sale. The evening commences at 6.30pm with finger food and drinks.

Tickets at $25 per head and are available at First National Real Estate, Suzy’s Fine Jewellery or at the door on the night.

The art show will continue at the Warragul Exhibition Hall at 13 Howitt St (also known as South Rd) from Friday, October 20 to Sunday, October 22.

Opening hours each day are 10am to 5pm. General admission to the art show is $5 for adults.

While visiting the art show, make sure you cast your vote for the very popular “people’s choice award”. Many visitors find this a good way to focus on the detail and impact of the art work on display.

All the artwork on display is for sale, and there is something to suit every budget. Whether you are an art buff, a hobbyist, a home decorator or none of the above, there will be something to please your eye.

“There’s something for everyone at this year’s Rotary Art Show,” said Warragul Rotary Club president Vaughan Fox.

“The artists benefit from prize money and sales, while profits from the art show are returned to the local community through Rotary projects. So why not get a few friends together and have an enjoyable time at the annual Rotary Art Show.”
