Lardner Park stalwart honoured for service

-

Lardner Park stalwart John Rogers has been presented with honorary life membership for more than 50 years service at Lardner Park.

The Lardner dairy farmer has been a long time supporter of Lardner Park, serving on the organising committee of the former Gippsland Field Days since 1965.

He is the longest serving committee member, giving 52 years service as a loyal and dedicated volunteer at Lardner Park including Farm World and other events throughout the year.

Fellow long serving committee member Brian Hopkins paid tribute to John’s service to the committee.

He said John had participated in working bees, committee meetings, assisting with many tasks annually at Farm World, and most recently as the crush operator at the steer trial event.

During Farm World John was always active during the set-up period and provides an invaluable information service to patrons during the event.

Brian said John’s fondness for the Lions Club barbecue and other good foods on offer at Farm World was “legendary.”

In 2002, Lardner Park presented John with Distinguished Service Fellow Award for his dedication and commitment.

Lardner Park board chair Andrew Schreyer recently presented him with honorary life membership.

John has now retired from the family farm to live in Warragul, and although he has retired from the Lardner Park committee, he is expected to continue to be a regular at Farm World and helping out where he can.
