New look for Mason St with second roundabout
Roundabout works at the intersection of Mason and Palmerston Streets are due for completion early this month.
The roundabout works follow construction of a roundabout at the Albert and Mason Street intersection, with works part of the Warragul Central Business District Plan.
The two roundabouts had been identified as key priorities in improving traffic management in the town’s CBD.
Roundabout construction included kerb and channel work, pavement works, central and splitter islands, landscaping and lighting works.
Works at the intersection of Mason and Williams Streets are expected to begin in February, where widening of Mason St and construction of a small roundabout will take place. A $728,689 tender has been awarded to Mad Cat Construction for the Mason St works.
The $4 million streetscape project aims to improve access and traffic movement in the heart of the CBD.
A major feature of the new streetscape will see Palmerston St between Victoria and Smith Sts converted to one-way traffic (east direction) in early 2018. Other works scheduled for this financial year include traffic signals at the Napier and Queen Street intersection.
The section of Smith St between Palmerston and Victoria St is scheduled for conversion to one-way in a southerly direction in the 2018-19 financial year.
