Joint effort to help sick children

-

Two children at the Royal Children’s Hospital will benefit from the generosity of an anonymous donor and the efforts of some local quilters.

Someone donated 20 partly finished applique blocks with pink and green rabbits on them.

Mary Aitken of Drouin Fireflies brought the blocks along to a meeting and wondered if anyone would be able to complete them.

Shirley Barby of Warragul Quilters accepted the challenge and completed the embroidery on each block to make 20 beautiful rabbits.

Jen Grant of Warragul Quilters offered to join the blocks. She made two little quilts with nine blocks in each and with the extra blocks she made two little pillows for the children’s dollies.

Judy Barr of Drouin Fireflies completed the next step of quilting the tops with the wadding and backing fabric.

When this was done, Jen cut and attached the binding to the little quilts. To finish Shirley did the hand stitching down of the binding.

The quilts will be donated to the Very Snuggly Quilts program, which is organised by the Victorian Quilters Incorporated.

Quilts are given to long-term patients at the Royal Children’s Hospital in the oncology, neurology, cardiac and cystic fibrosis wards.

It is hoped that the quilts will provide some extra warmth and comfort at a difficult time in their young lives.
