Buln Buln latest club to join WDJFL
The Warragul District Junior Football League has become the largest junior football competition in country Victoria following the addition of Buln Buln for season 2018.
Following its expansion over recent years that has seen Ellinbank, Poowong-Loch and Caldermeade added to the League, the addition of Buln Buln for season 2018 will take the WDJFL to a 14-club competition.
League president Anthony Hibbs said member clubs voted unanimously to include Buln Buln in the junior competition for the first time since 1999.
“The proposal has been to affiliate with three teams, being under 10s, under 12s and under 14s and the club has met key criteria of the league,” Hibbs said.
“We are now a 14-club competition and the biggest junior competition in country Victoria.
“Over the past seven years we’ve had a 23 per cent increase in participation of boys and girls.
“We’re pleased to accept the application as the league has mantra to foster participation and development of boys and girls in junior footy.”
Buln Buln will play its WDJFL home matches at Buln Buln Recreation Reserve.
Buln Buln Junior Football Club president Michael White said the club was delighted to be part of a strong and successful league.
“We’re excited that junior footballers in the Buln Buln community will be wearing the red and blue,” he said.
“It gives them the opportunity to represent their community, rather than being farmed out to other clubs.”
White said the club was still seeking expressions of interest for players and coaches in under 10, under 12 and under 14 age groups.
