Sharp issue back on the agenda

-

The $6.50 charge for replacement sharp containers used by diabetics to dispose of needles may be reviewed by Baw Baw shire council.

In a formal response to a question on notice at the December council meeting it was stated direction would be sought from council “about the future of the service and the charge to recover container costs”.

The fee sparked a strong reaction from diabetics when introduced in the shire several years ago.

In her question on notice Shirley Stone said neighbouring municipalities Latrobe City and Bass Coast and South Gippsland shires did not charge for supply or replacement of the containers.

She said the $6.50 fee was a further impost on people that already had to pay for insulin test strips, a glucose meter, medication, diabetes education and specialist visits.

Council’s response pointed out that the charge only covered the cost of containers and council paid for disposal of full ones.

It said the fee was considered reasonable given many genuine service users would not require many more than four containers each year.

A big bouquet to our postman who has decorated his motorbike and himself.

It’s nice to see him coming down the street with a wave and a Merry Christmas greeting when he stops to deliver the mail.

Bricks to the person who stole a new porch chair from a 93-year-old lady in the west commission area. She had bought the chair for her visitors to enjoy the outdoors.

Bricks to the peopole that dump rubbish. There is a pile beside Lardner Rd and Jackson Drive in Drouin. You don’t deserve to live in this beautiful country. You have no respect or pride. Shame on you.
