Bounty resumes

-

Collection teams will be back on the road next month with the resumption of the Victorian Fox and Wild Dog Bounty.

Agriculture Victoria’s John Matthews said collections will begin on March 5, starting with north-west collection centres.

“The collection period for the fox and wild dog bounty will run from March until the end of October, consistent with previous years.

“Eligible participants can submit entire fox scalps for a $10 reward and entire wild dog skin pieces for a $120 reward during scheduled collection times,” Mr Matthews said.

The yearly average for the bounty is now 98,413 fox scalps and 535 wild dog skin pieces.

Market report for 14th and 15th February Wednesday Fat Sale 403 head. Thursday Bull and Cow Sale 37 bulls, 299 cows.

Numbers eased this Wednesday with 117 less head on offer. Heifer numbers were greatly reduced dropping from 31 head to 5 and with demand wavering, competition was missing in this area. Bullock numbers were firm and so were the prices. Steer numbers were back, but a demand for the heavier bodies gave for a rise in the average. Around 80 less vealers were penned and although the top sale was easier, the better pens held value, demand for the secondary veal slipped, easing the average. This week’s yard average was back 10c to 261.7. 5 bullocks made to 248, and averaged 236.4. 5 heifers made to 221.2, and averaged 161.2. 19 steers made to 263.2, up 4, and averaged 230.6, up 21. 372 veal made to 330.6, back 6, and averaged 267.8, back 15.

Numbers on Thursday were very similar to last week, the only factor this week was several buyers have sufficient stocks on hand and held off slightly 37 bulls reached 247.6, back 13 and averaged 9 cents easier at 214.2. There were 299 cows yarded and the top made 222.2, back 22, with the average easing 10 cents to 176.2. This week yard average was 182.1, back 13.
