Eagles in top four

Ellinbank (236) def. Hallora (196): In a stunning result Ellinbank have leapt in to the top four with just one game remaining in the home and away season, following a 40-run upset victory over Hallora.

Having bowled impressively on day one of proceedings, the Eagles began cautiously in their pursuit of 196 with Will Robertson and Matthew Farthing watchful against the newball bowling of Ryan Williams and Sam Whibley.

A 56-run second wicket stand between the pair saw frustration build for the Halloran bowlers, and Troy Ferguson and Daniel Pandolfo compounded their misery in a 101-run fourth wicket stand that all but carried Ellinbank to victory.

Ferguson was the more aggressive of the two – striking 13 boundaries in total on his way to 69 – while Pandolfo chimed in with a gritty 41.

James Williams snared 6-60 in 23.5 quality overs, but there was little he could do to prevent the Eagles from reaching their target with four wickets intact, and Ellinbank eventually made their way to 236 before being dismissed in the 82nd over.

Panthers take points

Yarragon (224):

In their final game for the season – with the bye taking place for Yarragon in Round 14 – the Panthers finished season 2017/18 on a high note following a 44-run win over Longwarry.

Defending 268, Yarragon were faced with an aggressive chase from the Crows, and the likes of Ishan Ratnayake and Laytten Smith struggled to adapt.

A second wicket stand of 69 threatened to take the game away from the Panthers, but the middle and lower order were unable to continue the momentum.

Gamini Kumara’s disciplined approach with the ball saw him claim regular wickets – finishing with 4-65 – and as a result of his pressure Longwarry struggled to gain the necessary momentum needed to carry them to victory.

Tom Keily’s superb form continued and he posted another fine half-century, while Troy Lehman chimed in with an even 50 in a pleasing support role. (9-268) def. Longwarry
