Division 3

- By Sam Laffy

Buln Buln (302) def. Iona (217): Mick Taylor and Jayson Barwick did their best to rescue Iona from an almost impossible position on Saturday, but even their contributions couldn’t stop Buln Buln from claiming an 85-run win over the Swamp Tigers – the victory keeping the Lyrebirds’ finals hopes alive heading into the final round.

Resuming at 3-14 Iona put together a 99-run fourth wicket stand between Taylor and Andrew Parker – with Taylor well and truly the dominant partner in the stand. He made his way to 99 before being lured into a false stroke just short of what would have been a fine century.

Barwick made 69 to lift Iona to 217, but the five-wicket haul to Max Kelly (who snared 583 from 18) ensured that Buln would emerge victorious.

Stags claim win

Neerim (134):

Even contributions from the Neerim District attack helped the Stags claim a 48-run win over Garfield-Tynong in their round 13 clash, with the Titans simply unable to overcome the extended build-up of pressure from the bowlers.

Ray Evans (20), Thomas Bulenok (29) and Mark Cousin (28) did their best to try to lead Garfield-Tynong in a successful pursuit of 182, but the likes of Cameron Law (3-25 from 12), Jamie Gleeson (2-24 off 17), Marc Pinkerton (3-19 from 11.3) and Matthew Kelliher (1-40) ensured that there would be no joy for the Titans.
