Warragul & Drouin Gazette

Obvious need

-

It was disappointing to read in The Gazette (20/2) about hospital cuts.

It is about time the Commonwealth and State stopped playing politics and the blame game with public health funding and got their acts together in the best interest of the people they serve.

To maintain a high quality health service you need many things but three critical requirements are, staff that are skilled, competent and committed to quality and safe patient care (which WGHG has), a funding model that is fair and equitable which provides adequate resources to do the job and modern up to date facilities and equipment to care for patients providing a safe and healthy environment for patients, visitors and staff.

The need for a new hospital at Warragul has been obvious to many for some time.

The need for a new hospital is because the current hospital (that has served our community well over many years) has passed its use by date and is now outdated and struggling to meet the current service demands which is being created by an ageing people and significant population growth across Baw Baw Shire.

Over the past five to 10 years there has been two master plans/service plans and feasibility studies completed that demonstrate the inadequacies of the current hospital and the need for a new hospital with significantly increased capacity to cater for the population growth now and into the future.

I understand all the government planning and business case requirements have been met and further planning cannot progress till the government makes a commitment to build the new hospital.

The development of a new hospital at the greenfield site on Lardners Track is supported by the local council, Committee for Gippsland, the state Liberal party and our local community.

A commitment to funding needs to be included in the May 2018 state budget and the Federal Government also needs to make a funding commitment to assists the state in meeting the cost of this multi million dollar project.

In response to Gwen Hunter's letter Fuel superstop fantastic (Gaz 20/2), firstly Gwen have you seen a copy of the proposal?

I am positive you would not think this proposal is ‘fantastic' if you had.

You say that it is far enough away from the Village, it is right next to Hazeldean Rd, full of residents.

It is taking up five titles, 84.81 hectares, which is 209.51 acres, all land still currently zoned as Rural.

A huge bouquet to two young men who helped me, when my husband became ill at the Burke Street netball courts on Monday, February 19. They helped keep him upright until the ambulance came. A huge thank you

Bricks to whoever is responsible for mowing the nature strip at the Lilleys Rd bus stop.

The long grass looks shocking.

Many bouquets to the lovely woman who donated $110 to Drouin Girl Guides at a barbecue at Coles, Drouin on Saturday. Sorry that I didn’t get your name at the time.

Please stop smoking at the entrance to the West Gippsland Hospital The no smoking sign is very clear.

All these wonderful laws and rules What a joke that no-one enforces them.

Bricks to the Trader editor for the incorrect information about the changes to Palmerston St. The centre of Warragul CBD has been made confusing enough without the paper printing wrong information.
