What to expect from your first yoga class

-

If you’ve always wanted to try yoga, but you’re a little unsure where to begin, here’s a few tips to help understand what to expect.

There are many different yoga styles on offer and it is important to find a class that suits both your fitness levels and personal goals.

Three of the most popular styles of yoga typically found in Western yoga studios are Vinyasa, Hatha and Yin Yoga.

Vinyasa Yoga is a fast paced style and focuses more on flowing between postures.

This is an excellent way to increase the heart rate and receive a nurturing cardiovascular and muscular workout.

Meditation and stretching are also incorporated to encourage flexibility so the intensity is beautifully balanced.

Vinyasa can be modified to suit all levels, however it definitely is a little more vigorous than the other styles.

Hatha Yoga is a more gentle style and focuses on building both strength and flexibility.

You hold each pose a little longer than Vinyasa and have more opportunity to work on body alignment, meditation and pranayama (breathing) practices throughout the class.

This is a great class for beginners or anyone looking to build up their fitness, strength and flexibility.

Yin Yoga is a much slower and meditative practice. You hold poses for approximately 2-5 Yoga Life Warragul offers Vinyasa, Hatha, Yin and meditation classes, 6 days a week.

minutes and work deeply on the flexibility of both muscles and muscle attachments.

This is a beautiful opportunity to slow right down and breathe deeply - particularly beneficial for anyone who leads a busy and fast paced life.

Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned yoga practitioner, it is always important to go at your own pace and listen to what your body, mind and soul needs.

Yoga is a very individualised practice and
