Paterson house continue dominance

Paterson house scored a whopping 1014 points to win Drouin Secondary College’s swimming sports for the seventh year running.

Lawson was second with 887 points and not far behind was Gordon with 875. Dennis house finished with 632 points.

New College records were set. Riley Griffin beat the record for the male under 14 50m butterfly set in 2012, swimming a time of 34.79. He also broke the College record for male under 14 50m A freestyle that had been set in 1999, with a time of 30.34.

Trent Fritzlaff broke the male under 14 50m B freestyle record that had been set in 1990, swimming a time of 36.91.

The College congratula­ted all teams for competing well and house captains who organised their swimmers and cheer squads efficientl­y.

The teachers put in an amazing effort from gathering the swimmers onto the podium to calculatin­g the points and giving out ribbons.

The weather for the day was splendid, with everyone having a wonderful time from the year 7s participat­ing for the first time to the year 12s celebratin­g their last swimming sports.

The best part of the day was the novelty events and the teachers participat­ing in the relay event. It was a huge success with everyone cheering on. Individual champions: Junior: Boy’s: 1st Riley Griffin (Paterson) 60 points, 2nd Declan Thomas (Gordon) 52, 3rd Kieran Williams (Lawson) 28.

Girl’s: 1st Ella Johnstone (Lawson) 52, Equal 2nd Echo Firth (Lawson) 30, Rachael Jenkins (Paterson) 30. Intermedia­te: Boy’s: 1st Ray Smith (Paterson) 28, 2nd Corey Heagney (Lawson) 19, 3rd Sam Pratt (Gordon) 18.

Girl’s: Equal 1st Piper Hastings (Lawson) 46, Amelia Downie (Paterson) 46, 2nd Sophie White (Lawson) 22. Seniors: Boy’s: 1st Jai Newcombe (Gordon) 46, 2nd Garry Hallam (Lawson) 40, 3rd Jared Mills (Paterson) 38.

Girl’s: 1st Maddi Shaw (Paterson) 48, 2nd Chelsea Anderson (Dennis) 33, 3rd Jessica Murphy (Dennis) 32.
