Joint fundraiser from golf day

-

A charity golf fundraiser to support West Gippsland Hospital and the Warragul and District Specialist School has kicked off.

Volunteers are set to hit the streets to sell raffle tickets with the Warragul Country Club Fundraising Committee once again coordinating the event which is auspiced by Bendigo Bank branches across Baw Baw Shire.

The event in its fourth year combines a community raffle, charity golf day and auction of donated goods to be held at Warragul Country Club on Friday, April 6.

Charity Golf Day volunteer committee member Maureen Kittelty said last year’s raffle and auction raised over $25,000 to purchase additional medical equipment for West Gippsland Hospital.

“This year, we have included the Warragul and District Specialist School to receive a share of the funds raised,” she said.

“Volunteers will be selling raffle tickets over the next few weeks with stalls planned at Coles, Woolworths, Bunnings at Warragul and local markets.

“Raffle tickets are also available at West Gippsland Hospital reception, Warragul and District Specialist School and Bendigo Bank branches across Baw Baw.

“It’s a great way for the community to support two organisations that help so many people across Baw Baw.

“Local businesses have stepped into support the event donating a range of goods and services for the raffle and the auction.

“Everything from gardening supplies, travel, accommodation, food, wine, jewellery, art and more.”

Registrations are also open for teams wishing to compete in the Charity Golf day on April 6.

Last year’s event attracted 29 teams of golfers and included professionals teeing off for longest drive and putting for nearest the pin on the seventh hole upon receipt of donations.

The event has raised $67,500 since it began four years ago and the committee is aiming to exceed the $100,000 mark through the fundraising this year.

“It has grown into a well-supported event with 100 per cent of raffle and donation proceeds directed to the West Gippsland Hospital and Warragul Specialist School.” Maureen said.
