Cannon firing at Walhalla

-

An RAAF flyover, historical cannon firing and bagpipes are set to feature during an expanded dawn service at the Walhalla war memorial on Anzac Day.

The unique service at 6am has grown over the past 30 years. From small beginning, it is now a major event for Walhalla with attendance growing to between 300 and 400 people.

This year will see about 24 service personnel from Australian Army base Latchford Barracks in attendance. They will march and guard the cenotaph during the service.

The sound of the bagpipes followed by the bugler playing the “Last Post” and “Reveille” is memorable and moving in the Walhalla valley.

Guest speaker will be Warrant Officer First Class Brendan Johnson. A visual display on large screen will support his speech.

The shooting of the rifle, historical cannon and RAAF flyover are set to be other highlights.

The local scout group will provide a gunfire breakfast following the service.
