Blues hold off Magpies in 18s
Reigning premier Catani held off a determined Poowong in the under 18s, 6-6 (42) to 5-4 (34).
The Blues couldn’t shake off the determined Magpies, who kept in touch throughout the contest.
Lauchlan Gregson had a big say in the outcome of the match, booting four goals as the Blues held a narrow margin throughout.
He was assisted by Jason Cox, Lachlan Seppings, Liam Adams, Maverick Kent and Angus Hetherington.
Jacksen Barlow, Mathew Burr, Ben Clarke, Darcy Burgess, Jai Derrick and Josh McNally kept the Magpies in the contest.
Saints brushed aside
Buln Buln headed the list of comfortable results, brushing aside Nyora 14-13 (97) to 2-3 (15).
Jye Loughridge steered through two goals in the first term as the Saints were competitive early, but they couldn’t manage a major for the remainder of the match as Buln Buln ran away with it.
The scoring was shared by the Lyerbirds, who finished with 10 goal scorers. Flynn O’Reilly, Kyan Willis, Caleb Visser, Adam Clynes, Jake Smith and Jesse Brown were among the better players in a dominant performance by the home side.
Travis Stewart, Blake Boyd, Kelsyn Lia, Callum Miller, Jai McNaughton and Jacob Douglas helped the Saints compete early.
Cats get cream
Neerim-Neerim South produced three good quarters to comfortably account for Lang Lang, 9-5 (59) to 3-6 (24).
The Cats kept the Tigers scoreless in the opening quarter to open up a handy buffer and while the Tigers won the second term, the Cats were able to maintain control in the second half.
Rhys George kicked three goals in a performance worthy of best on ground honours, while Christian Robertson-Edgar, Thomas Pollard, Josh White, Isaac Fuller and Justin Lockett also helped the Cats maintain control.
Daniel Makepeace, Sam Mascadri, Cameron Stephenson, Terry Kirkham and Jye Stephens did their best to keep the Tigers in the contest.
Eagles win big
A strong performance across the middle quarters of the game set up a comfortable victory for Ellinbank over Warragul Industrials, 12-10 (82) to 6-7 (43).
While the Industrials remained in touch at quarter time, the Eagles kicked seven goals to one across the second and third term to establish a commanding lead.
Five goals for Gary Lantjin and winning the final term gave the Industrials some positives. Riley Sheriff, Nathan McEwen, Luke Rasmussen, Blake Kahan and Curtis Warbuton-Kift were their other better players. William Robertson kicked three goals for Ellinbank, while Brian Kelly, Elliot Kennedy, Lachlan Hedrick, Daniel Bradford and Matthew Bow were also instrumental in the strong performance.
