Garden club increase membership

-

The March meeting of Warragul and District Garden Club was divided between the annual general meeting and a tips, questions and answers session.

In his report to the AGM the president informed members that the club had increased in numbers considerably over the past 12 months with the membership list now exceeding 80.

President Ralph Slaughter, vice-president, Henry Cotton and secretary Judy Butler were all re-elected unopposed. Rob Coustley will take over as club treasurer from Lois Saunders.

The president paid tribute to the many years of service donated by Lois and thanked her for her dedication to the task. He also thanked all those who have contributed towards the club having such a successful year.

The monthly competition saw Aileen White take out the prize for the flower of the month (one Rose) with Alan Saunders gaining best exhibit with a magnificent example of a potted Anthurium.

About 40 members joined a bus trip to the Melbourne International Garden show, bringing home a variety of purchases.

A trip is planned for April 23 to the Geelong Botanical Gardens and Country Dahlias at Winchelsea. The latter nursery has 20,000 thousand plants in 2250 varieties spread over several acres.

There are still a few seats available on the bus and bookings can be made by phoning Howard on 5622 3184. The cost is $31 for members and $36 for non-members and there will be pick-ups in Warragul, Drouin and Pakenham.

Because of the trip the normal meeting will be moved forward a week to April 30. The Speaker will be Peter Ware, who will present a colourful slide presentation of flora and fauna in the local area entitled “Beautiful Baw Baw”.
