Hockey season enters 40th year

West Gippsland Hockey Associatio­n is fired up for their first weekend of fixtured matches at synthetic turf at Bellbird Park, Drouin on Saturday.

This will be the 40th anniversar­y of the first matches of the West Gippsland Hockey Associatio­n. The WGHA will celebrate this milestone during round four of the 2018 season on Saturday May 12.

The 2018 season has 15 rounds, culminatin­g in grand finals to be played in September.

The WGHA welcomes new players. Men and women, boys and girls play on Saturdays.

The benefits of hockey include staying fit and but also the feeling of being part of a team and feeling welcomed.

Younger players can get involved with under eight and under 10 teams which play on Friday nights.

Spectators are always welcome to pop down to the synthetic turf at Drouin with no admission cost.
