Thirds loss not all bad news

-

The downside for Warragul thirds on Saturday was that it lost to Moe.

But there were plenty of upsides.

They should now know they’re not far off the mark of top sides and are well capable of playing finals.

It was only in the final quarter that Moe was able to get the decisive break.

The Lions kicked three of their six goals in the final term to win what had been a terrific and good standard contest 6-9 to 3-7.

Warragul led by a goal at quarter time and was still one point in front at the halfway mark before Moe edged ahead by seven points at the final change after a hard-fought third quarter.

Patrick Mulqueen, Liam Giliam, Will Gown, Joshua Notman and Sam Fennell were best for the Gulls in what was an encouraging showing overall.

Ryley Green, Aaron Baxter and Cooper Robbins kicked the goals.

In the fourths Moe’s quick start proved the difference.

At quarter time the Lions had five goals on the board with Warragul’s first goal not coming until the second term.

At the finish it was Moe winning 9-4 to 2-3.

Jake Kallady, Connor Ives, Beau Cusden, Will Hartfield, Corey Maric and Joshua Bloye were the Gulls’ best.

The goals came from Jai Serong and Hatfield.
