First round of women’s footy

-

Youth Girls AFL Football started on Sunday with the newly formed Warragul Industrials Youth Girls travelling to Korumburra for their round one encounter with Korumburra-Bena Giants.

The Dusties girls have moved into the AFL Southern Gippsland Junior Football League for season 2018 with many new and previous players taking to the field.

The game started with both teams working hard for that first kick, some strong tackling and congested football making it hard for either side to win the advantage. The Giants slowly moving into their forward 50 and eventually getting the first goal half way through the first quarter.

The Giants were going to prove far to strong for the Dusties girls who struggled at times to push the ball forward, eventually kicking their first major in the second quarter.

A big ground made the game very tiring by the final quarter for all the girls, but they all played well and gave their very best until the final siren.

Some accurate kicking was the plus for the Korumburra girls and strong defensive tackling with some very fast movement of the ball and well executed plays by the Dusties wll be their stronger points come later in the season.

Warragul now go into a bye for the second game with the girls returning for their round three match against Inverloch currently scheduled to be played at Western Park on May 5 at 1pm.

The Warragul Industrials women’s team were also in action on Friday night in their final practice match before their round one division two game against Seaford May 5.
