Cobras dealt finals blow

-

Bunyip sensationally dealt a blow to the finals aspirations of Cora Lynn, holding on to win by a goal, 8-8 (56) to 7-8 (50).

While the Bulldogs have been learning new structures under new coaches Austinn Jones and Ricky Clark, it finally clicked for long enough to allow for an upset victory.

First-hand knowledge of how the Cobras play could have been a key factor as the Bulldogs held a narrow lead throughout the contest.

Holding a one-point advantage at the first change, the Bulldogs powered out to a 21-ppint half time lead to set up the match.

The Cobras were always going to fight back and did so with three goals to one in the third term to reduce the margin to 10points at the final change.

The Cobras continued to come home strong with two goals to one, but it wasn’t quite enough to bridge the gap.

Jason Williams kicked two goals in a difficult day for scoring while Dylan Gallasch, Rickie Crockett, Anthony Young, Damien Swzaja, Matthew O’Halloran and Ben Wright also helped propel Bunyip to victory.

Jaxon Briggs continued his strong form with two goals, while Jai Rout and Tristan FernandezPhillips also scored multiples.

Shaun Sparks, Luke Hartley, Rylan Smith, Jeremy Monckton and Brayden Weller were also key players in the Cobras’ second half comeback.

The shock loss put the Cobras back outside the top five.

Goon on top

Nar Nar Goon were far too strong for Garfield and could have enjoyed a greater final margin had they taken their chances in the first half.

Neither side could manage a goal in the first quarter, the Goon registering eight behinds and no doubt sensing an opportunity wasted to quickly put the contest on their terms.

Instead it was a scrap, with the Stars still in touch at the final change before falling away.

Trailing by 21-points at half time, the Stars showed some positive signs in the third quarter to win the term and reduce the margin to 16-points at the final change.

However the effort couldn’t last, the Goon booting four goals to one in the final term as they finally managed to take control.

Brendan Hermann, Shannon Stocco, Sam Blackwood, Troy McDermott, Trent Noy and Jake Blackwood helped the Goon take control.

Tim Vrevc, Michael Wallace, Damion Denysenko, Leigh Diston, Nicholas Macente and Zane Harper were the better players in a gallant effort from the Stars.

The win propelled Nar Nar Goon to top of the ladder, while the Stars sit in fourth position one game clear of Phillip Island and Cora Lynn.

Eagles respond

Inverloch-Kongwak bounced back to account for Koo wee rup, 12-9 (81) to 10-8 (68).

With the reigning premier coming in off the back of two straight losses, the Sea Eagles started strongly with five goals to two in the opening term to set up a 17point buffer at the first change.

The slow start continued for the Demons in the second term, managing just two behinds as they fell to a 29-point deficit at the long break.

The Demons made a response in the third term, booting five goals to three to reduce the margin to three goals and keep in touch.

Jason Wells led the charge with six goals, but the slow start proved too much to be able to reel in.

Anthony Giuliano, Bailey Galante, Mitchell Collins, David Collins and Craig Dyker were also instrumental in the second half fightback.

Bulldogs win big

Phillip Island were big winners over Dalyston to consolidate their position in the top five.

The Bulldogs kept the Magpies goalless in the first and final terms on the way to a big win, 2425 (169) to 3-3 (21).

Holding a handy 43-ppint advantage at half time, the Bulldogs put the foot down in the second half.

A return of 6-15 in the third term wasted an opportunity to well and truly bury the Bulldogs, but they found their range in the final term as they slammed through 10-1.

Giants enjoy win

Korumburra-Bena enjoyed a rare win over the struggling Kilcunda-Bass.

The Giants won every quarter and led from start to finish, gradually building their lead to win 11-13 (79) to 6-4 (40).

The win gave the Giants some breathing space from the bottom of the ladder.
