Magpies win under 18 thriller

Poowong held on for a thrilling win over Ellinbank in the under 18s, 6-8 (44) to 64 (40).

The Magpies kicked out to a nine-point lead at the first change but the Eagles pegged them back, with scores at 3-3 apiece at half time.

Holding a five point advantage at the final change, a wasteful Magpies kept the Eagles in the match with a return of 1-5, but two goals from the visitor wasn’t enough as the Magpies held on.

Jai Derrick, Tane Derrick, Lachlan De Kleuver, Kaiden Fullerton, Josh McNally and Mitchel Van’T Hof helped the Magpies hold on.

Elliot Kennedy, Lachlan Hedrick, William Robertson, Jake Tyers and Matthew Bow pushed hard to try and get Ellinbank over the line.

Birds win comfortabl­y

Buln Buln comfortabl­y accounted Warragul Industrial­s, 8-13 (61) to 5-5 (35).

Holding a 29-pointr advantage at half time, the Lyrebirds dropped off as the Industrial­s kicked three goals to one in the third term.

The home team ensured there would be no final term charge, kicking two goals to one as the match finished in a grind.

Marko Kulas kicked four goals for Buln Buln, while Jai Pitkin, Chad Hall, Charlie Wans, Kyan Willis and Mitchell Crole also helped press the advantage.

Damian Barreto, Bradley Young, Brayden Hefford, Riley Sheriff, Robert Macdonald and Blake Kahan led a competitiv­e second half from the Industrial­s.

Cats thump Saints

Neerim-Neerim South thumped Nyora, 2011 (131) to 2-0 (12).

The Cats booted five goals to one in the first term and were never headed, their eight goals in the third term ensuring it would be a percentage booster.

Adam White and Cooper Clancy each booted five goals, while Thomas Pollard chipped in with three majors.

Lachlan Guy, Rhys George, Justin Lockett and Jackson Saunders also led a dominant performanc­e.

Kelsyn Lia, Jack Felton, Ben Lineham, Lincoln Brock, Jai McNaughton and Oscar Lazarus battled against the odds for the Saints.

Blues kick away

Catani kicked away to comfortabl­y defeat Lang Lang, 13-6 (84) to 3-5 (23).

As has usually been the case this season, the Tigers were able to hang in for the first quarter to trail by just 13-points at the first change.

But their inability to score robbed them of any chance of creating any momentum, the Blues booting five goals to one in the second term to take control.

Lauchlan Gregson booted seven goals, while Thomas Gowans chipped in with three majors. Maverick Kent, Lucas Kallady, Reece Asmus, Lachlan Seppings and Cayden Gowans also set up opportunit­ies.

Rhys Simmons, Cameron Stephenson, Mason Koffman, Kobe Boswell and Griffin Shepherd helped the Tigers compete early.
