Drouin secured three wins after travelling to Maffra on Saturday. A grade: Drouin 57 defeated Maffra 54. A terribly slow start saw the Hawks put themselves in a tough position, having to play catchup netball.

Once the defence end was able to slow up the young and quick Maffra, the Hawks got themselves back into the game.

A solid second half in wet conditions saw the Hawks take the lead and control the last quarter to eventually come away with a win. Award: Christie Edwards. B grade: Maffra 48 defeated Drouin 40. The Hawks played a great first half of netball, only trailing by two goals at half-time.

They had plenty of opportunities to take the lead but couldn’t convert turnovers into goals in pressure moments.

Natalie Sloan had a great game in goal defence, turning the ball over across the transverse line and combining well with Ali McArthur in the circle.

Jodie Proctor was a steady head in attack and continues to work each week to develop combinations and connections with a youthful attack end. Awards: Natalie Sloan and Jodie Proctor. C grade: Drouin 47 defeated Maffra 39. The Hawks had a huge game this week, playing the top team and rising to the occasion.

The girls executed the game plan with all on court working hard throughout the four quarters and playing their role.

Lateisha Edwards and Jess Murray were important in defence, coming up with crucial intercepts right when the game was in the balance.

Abbey Tyrrell and Taylah Marsh were steady in the goal ring, playing smart, composed netball and shooting beautifully.

The girls settled instantly with the rotations through the defence and midcourt, showing how united and driven they are.

The Hawks were composed with the ball and drove with intensity and purpose. But, in those two minutes, really let themselves down.

Kiarna Craig played a great game in wing attack, working hard to receive the ball on the circle edge and feeding well to the goalers. Award: Kiarna Craig. Under 15s: Drouin 49 defeated Maffra 40. It was a good win by the Hawks, but it was not an easy task.

Struggling initially to gain flow or consistency, the girls came together with continuous effort, positivity and teamwork to clinch the win.

Macey Newcombe was again outstanding in a variety of positions.

Sabine Lieshout and Bailey Flemming provided positive talk out on court to really pick the girls up.

Harriet Parkinson was relentless in wing defence, giving her opponent no space all game.

Goalers Olivia Konstany and Brooke DeRiter work hard all game, shooting at a very high percentage.

With some big matches in the weeks ahead, the girls will need to work particularly hard at training if they are going to secure a spot in the top five.

Awards: Macey Newcombe and Sabine Lieshout. Under 13s: Maffra 45 defeated Drouin 20. The Hawks played one of their best games for the season. It was a fantastic four quarter effort by all players to put together their highest scoring quarter for the season.
